Ray-Ban Sunglasses
Ray-Ban was founded by Bausch & Lomb in 1937.
With World War II quickly approaching in 1936, Ray-Ban designed the first anti-glare aviator style sunglasses that used polarized lens technology.
This company was founded with the intitial purpose of helping our heroes of the sky with their vision while in flight. Ray Ban also designed a frame with a slightly drooping perimeter to maximally shield an aviator’s eyes, which were repeatedly glancing downward toward a plane's instrument panel.
Pilots were issued the glasses at no charge, and in 1937 the public was able to purchase the model that banned the sun's rays as Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses.
The Ray-Ban Aviator became a well-known style of sunglasses when General Douglas MacArthur landed on the beach in the Philippines in W.W 2 and was photographed wearing the aviator glasses.
